BGP Communities

Lesson 5 of 7

BGP Communities

Introduction

In this lesson, we will configure BGP communities to manage route propagation effectively. By using community attributes like no-export and no-advertise, we can control how routes are shared between Autonomous Systems (AS) and ensure that specific routes do not leave designated boundaries. This capability is crucial for maintaining network policies and optimizing routing behavior in complex environments.

Quick Recap

In our previous lessons, we established a topology involving routers R9 and R11 within AS110. The IP addresses used were:

  • R11: 192.1.190.9 (BGP neighbor for R9)
  • R9: 10.7.7.7 and 10.8.8.8 (BGP neighbors)
