PAT (Port Address Translation)

Lesson 3 of 7

Introduction

In this lesson, we will configure Port Address Translation (PAT) on the ASA firewall to allow multiple internal hosts to share a single public IP address for internet access. This is important in real networks as it conserves IP addresses and enhances security by hiding internal IP addresses.

Quick Recap

In the previous lesson, we set up the ASA firewall and configured interfaces for different VLANs. The ASA has the following relevant interfaces:

  • E0/0: 10.1.102.10/24 (OUT)
  • E0/1: 10.1.101.10/24 (IN)
  • E0/2: 10.1.104.10/24 (DMZ)

We will now add PAT to enable internet access for hosts behind the ASA.
